Life is happening folks. It's getting colder here in Ohio but no snow yet. The missionary work is slow but it is happening.
I realized I always forget my funny incidents of the week when I'm frantically typing so I'll just throw my favorite from the last few weeks today.
-Sister Williams finally got up the courage to say "Love you" in a text (she's super shy and doesn't express love to very many people since she doesn' t know them well enough so I usually have to
physically type it out in our texts if I want it put in) and she sent it to the wrong number, and it went to a pair of Elder (Guy) missionaries in a different Area . It also had a flirtatious smiley face and everything (we can't send smiley faces in texts to Elders since it's seen as flirtatious).
Last night we watched the Christmas Devotional our church puts on every year in Salt Lake City. Some members were kind enough to feed us dinner and let us watch it in their very nicely decorated, comfy, and love filled home. Now, I LOVE the Christmas Devotional. What more could you ask for, you've got a choir of angels singing Christmas music, the Prophet President Monson with his cute warm smile and sage wisdom, and a stellar line up of inspired speakers who are going to talk about Christmas for an hour. Oh and when it's all over you get some nice shots of Temple Square in SLC all decked out in lights. Yesterday I learned something very simple but really profound. We all hear about the Christmas Spirit and I've always been able to feel it during this fun holiday season. In one of his talks given to the world President Monson reminds us that the Spirit of Christmas is really
just the Spirit of Christ. Last night the speakers taught about how Christ can calm our fears, he is the light we look for in our lives, he gives us hope, and he is the generous one who freely gives all he has
if we come to him. While I was listening to all of this inspired Counsel I was reminded of a simple decoration I saw in one of the many yards I passed last night:
I realized that The Spirit of Christmas, The Spirit of Christ, ITS JOY!!!
In the Book of Mormon there is a simple scripture that helps us understand our purpose in life better.
In 2 Nephi 2:25 it says, "Adam fell that men may be; and men are that they might have JOY."
We can have that joy because every struggle we ever have will be overcome by the Savior And his sacrifice for us. Every fear that we have can be dispelled, every person win lose we will be able to live with again, every bit of darkness we are surrounded by can be pushed out, and we can be truly joyful. A savior was born so we can smile. He was born so we can overcome anything. He was born so we can be better. He was born to give us hope in our future. He was born so that we all could find JOY. Find that joy this Christmas Season and once you have it, SHARE IT!!! The more we share it the more it grows inside ourselves and the more the is to go around.
I love you all, I miss you fiercely, and I want nothing more than for all of you to find true joy surrounded by those people you love this month. Keep smiling, look for opportunities to make people's days, and take the opportunity to think abut what your savior has done for you and REJOICE!
