Breaking News... Sister Reynolds is still alive and managed to keep a companion for more than six weeks
Hey Guys,
Life is good here in Scioto. This week is transfer week, but Heavenly Father decided that Sister Reynolds still has some more stuff to learn here in Grove City and some stuff to teach/learn from Sister Williams, so this will be the first transfer meeting of her mission she does not attend. This also means she will have spent approximately 6 months in Scioto when all is said and done in 5 weeks. Life is crazy folks.
Fun missionary work highlights include finding a miracle golden investigator and planning her baptism. Vanessa was referred to us by a ward member, she had her first lesson with Sister Williams and Sister Corbett while we were on exchanges where she accepted the baptismal date of November 28 and every lesson we've had since then has been wonderful. She loves everything she is learning and is already working towards being married in the temple with her husband who is already a
member. She is the sweetest person in the entire world and has soooooo much faith. She also calls me sweetheart, and loves to give us hugs, and has an adorable dog who wears really cute sweaters. This week we had a really cool experience with Vanessa. She suffers from major health problems and has for awhile. When we heard about her problems we taught her about priesthood blessings. (In our church, we have the same power and authority that Christ had. Worthy male members above the age of 12 can hold this power and use it to perform ordinances like blessing the sacrament, baptizing people, and giving people blessings to help them be healed.) That same power that Christ administered to the sick with is still here on the earth today, and if we have faith we can experience the same blessings those people saw with Christ. Vanessa loved the idea of this and was able to receive a priesthood blessing from some awesome ward members. She wasn't magically healed or miraculously cured, but because of her faith she has seen her health improve bit by bit and has felt the love of Heavenly Father so she could be strengthened to deal with her trials. This was a huge faith building experience for her. I have also had the experience of having a priesthood blessing before in my life and I am so grateful for the worthy priesthood holders who have been there to help me whenever I needed comfort, guidance, or strength. I'm grateful for that power that we have with us on earth!
Other interesting moments include Sister Williams and Reynolds loading a moving truck's worth full of huge heavy furniture, boxes, and power chairs into a UHaul for a cute less active ward member... ALL BY OURSELVES. The Soreness was real. Shoutout to My Dad who moved me across the world and back and taught me how to pack a moving truck. My spiritual thought of the day comes from a talk about being a consecrated missionary by Elder Tadd R Callister. He says;
"Eventually we must do more than tell the stories of the Book of Mormon; we must live them."
This goes for ALL scripture. It's great to know the scriptures, to immerse yourself in them daily, to be able to teach people about them and share them with those you love. True power comes from application. When we can not only tell others about the loving service Christ gave to those in need but give that same service and feel that same love for them, that is where true scripture power comes into our lives. When we can not only recite Nephi's declaration "I will go and do the things the Lord commands" (Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 3:7) but we also actually go and do the things the Lord commands us to do in our day, that is where we build true faith. Take some time this week to get to
know the scriptures this week and live the stories inside of them. Develop an attribute of the savior, or find a way to be like your other scripture heroes. I have seen this in my life as a missionary, my teaching has so much more power behind it when I can testify from a place of action not just knowledge. I love the scriptures and I know as we apply them into our daily lives we will find peace, joy, and even more strength than we could ever imagine. I am tired, a bit sore from biking, and heart sick from seeing people I love leave this transfer, BUT like Ammon "I cannot say the smallest
part (of pure joy) which I feel" (Book of Mormon, Alma 26:16) every
single day spreading the Gospel here in the Great Ohio land!!!
