Beautiful people who still read these emails, Hello!!!
It has been such an amazing week here in Grove City. Since the last time I wrote we have had a massive mission family activity, smashed plates in family home evening (to teach an effective object lesson about the Restoration of Jesus Christ's church on earth through Joseph Smith of course), scheduled a baptism for our investigator Matt on October 24 and scheduled Shep's baptism on November 7, Matt came to a baptism in our ward and felt the spirit so strongly, watched a session of General Conference (A special meeting held every 6 months where our modern day prophets and apostles get to speak to us over broadcasts. Check it out at https://www.lds.org/general-conference?lang=eng ) spent some quality time with Barbara while watching General conference, attended a musical service where we spiritually punched in the face by so many of our talented missionaries singing about Christ, and gotten so many exciting phone calls!!
Matt is doing soooooo well!! We lost contact for a bit, and we were so nervous he was getting scared away. We finally caught him for another lesson on Tuesday and he had done just the opposite. He is so in tune with the Spirit and feels it strongly every time he reads the Book of Mormon. Every day we get more questions from him, and he always asks at least 3x what he needs to do to be baptized. It's amazing to work with him and see his faith grow. The only thing Sister Morgan and I really do is help him direct his studies, and helping him continue to learn from the spirit. He already has an amazing relationship with God and we are just trying to help him continue that. He is so ready to be baptized and October 24 is going to be a great day for him!
It is transfer week (a mission is split up into 6 week time slots, every 6 weeks you have the chance to stay in your area with the same companion or move areas or recieve a new companion in your area) and on Monday we found out I will get to train a new missionary this next transfer (picture long string of super excited emojis here) I'll get to stay in Scioto and train as well. I am so excited to get to be a part of a new missionary's experience and help them to become a spectacular missionary!! I'm a bit nervous, I did just finish training and am far from perfect, but I am excited to learn and grow with my new companion. I'm also pretty relieved that I get to stay in this area.
Unfortunately this means Sister Morgan will be leaving Scioto, she only had 6 short weeks here but she did so many amazing things!! It will be sad to see her go tomorrow but I am so excited for the new adventures ahead!!
The spiritual thought this week come's from Dieter F Uchtdorf's talk from this first session of General Conference on Saturday. He told a story of a young girl getting to know her Great Aunt Rose, eventually the young girl asked her Aunt what made her so happy and this was her Aunt's reply,
“With such a glorious future,” Aunt Rose said, “why get swallowed up in past or present things that don’t go quite the way we planned?”
Eva furrowed her brow. “But wait a minute,” she said. “Are you saying that being happy means just looking forward to happiness in the future? Is all our happiness in eternity? Can’t some of it happen now?”
“Oh, of course it can!” Aunt Rose exclaimed. “Dear child, now is part of eternity. It doesn’t only begin after we die! Faith and hope will open your eyes to the happiness that is placed before you.
“I know a poem that says, ‘Forever—is composed of Nows.’6 I didn’t want my forever to be composed of dark and fearful ‘Nows.’ And I didn’t want to live in the gloom of a bunker, gritting my teeth, closing my eyes, and resentfully enduring to the bitter end. Faith gave me the hope I needed to live joyfully!"
I loved President Uchtdorf's parable, and this part especially touched my heart. Heavenly Fether did not design us to be sad, he designed us to recognize our potential and to live up to it. He designed us to look forward with hope, and make every single moment of our lives count. Forever starts now, and we need to fill it with joy not regret or feelings of sadness. Look up this week, be grateful, have more faith in the great things ahead of you. Stand still and see the salvation that God has planned for YOU!
Also just one more plug for General Conference. It is an incredible blessing to have modern day apostles and a Prophet who recieve revelation from God for US. The things they will talk about are things that God knows we need to help us to get through our lives. The men he has called, love us just like God loves us and their words and testimonies can be an immense source of strength in this crazy world. Listen to President Monson's voice, heed the words of the other inspired leaders, don't sleep through this marvelous work and wonder! You will find answers to your questions and you will feel God's love for you ❤
I hope all is well with all of you. I am so grateful for the new adventures and challenges that Heavenly Father puts in front of us and I hope you are all learning and growing every day. Keep your heads up, remember Christ loves you, and find things that make you happy this week!
